Welcome to Walk with Me!

(2 Timothy 3:16-17) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Walk with Me
is First Presbyterian Church of Orlando's church-wide Bible Reading Plan. In 2010, we will be following Jesus through the Scriptures with daily readings (Monday-Friday) through Acts and Paul's letters. Dr. Swanson and the pastoral team will be preaching through the same passages we are reading together throughout the week.

The Bible reading plan in 2010 will take us on the adventure of the developing early church as we read through Acts and Paul's letters guided by daily devotions written by members of our church family. For the first several months, we will read through Acts, until in Acts 13, the apostle Paul begins to take the gospel to the Gentiles, traveling throughout the then known world. We will read the letters (Epistles) that Paul writes to the various churches he "plants" (in Galatia, Phillipi, Ephesus, etc.) as he visits these places on his three missionary journeys. Please read our Introduction To Acts. Welcome to "Walk with Me" as we journey with Jesus through the Scriptures!!

SCRIPTURE:  2 Timothy 3:10-17         Read the passage

BIO:  I am Bill Rogers. I’ve been married to Carolyn for 46 yrs; father of 3; grandfather of 4. I am an Architect by profession. I was born in Orlando and raised in a Christian home. I gave my heart to Jesus at age 9. Church has always been a part of my life and church music is my passion. I currently sing in FPCO choir and two ensembles. I love to explore God’s dynamic word.

KEY VERSE:  2 Timothy 3:16  "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."

CENTRAL TRUTH:  God’s Holy Word is more than just a "good book". The Bible is the Owner’s Manual from the Creator of life.

DEVOTIONAL:  Paul had poured his life into Timothy. Seeking to disciple him in the knowledge of Christ. Now Paul was no longer able to actually spend time with him and was fully aware that his days were numbered. So in these last opportunities to instruct his young disciple, what do we find was Paul’s key advice? Use the God’s Holy Scripture as the standard and guide for his life. The advice is still valid for each of our lives because this is the one standard that will outlast the very world we live in (Matthew 24:35). But as solid as this advice is, its application for each of our lives is limited by how much we allow God’s Word to be an active part of our lives.

When I was growing up, our church had a program for children and youth that was call the "Sword Drill." One of the key elements was to be able to open your Bible and find a verse of scripture before the other kids did. Another was to be able to locate a book in the Bible and recite what book was before and after. The only was you stood a chance of winning a round was to study and practice. The competition was fun, but the knowledge of how to use God’s word was priceless. Even today I find myself searching for the scripture references the Pastor gives during the sermon, so I can read it along with him. Memory verses come to mind that give me encouragement, or speak to a particular situation. But I cannot depend on just my experiences in the past, I must continue to use and study the scriptures. The best part is that God’s word is so dynamic that each time you study it; new truths may be revealed to you.

What a privilege we have to be able to actually read from the heart of the God who loves us unto Salvation.

QUESTION 1:  How well do we know our Bibles? Where would you find Philemon or Malachi?

QUESTION 2:  Have you read any good books lately? The New Testament is a fantastic book and is only about 500 pages long. And it will change your life.

QUESTION 3:  Remember, the Bible is not just a book of do’s and don’ts. As the Message says it so well, "Every part is useful one way or another, showing us Truth, Exposing our rebellion, Correcting our mistakes, Training us to live God’s way".
