Titus 1:1-9

  Devotional for December 16th, 2010

SCRIPTURE:  Titus 1:1-9         Read the passage

BIO:  My name is Mackenzie Grzesik and I am 9 years old. I have one older brother who is 13. I live in Winter Springs and I am in 4th grade. I have been coming to FPCO since I was born and I like to read my Bible and play soccer. I go to Sunday School and also participate in Sonday Times. I also went to Camp Geneva this summer as well as Vacation Bible School.

KEY VERSE:  Titus 1:2  "Faith and understanding rest on the hope of eternal life. Before time began, God promised to give that life. And he does not lie."

CENTRAL TRUTH:  I feel the main point of this passage is that a person cannot be saved who does not hear and believe the truth of God.

DEVOTIONAL:  After reading the verses I learned how God uses all of us to share his Gospel with others. Paul was an apostle who taught others about Jesus and he is writing Titus to tell him how he is needed to stop what is happening in Crete. Titus is being sent to fix the problems and he is told to choose elders in every town. Paul describes that Titus needs to look for people who are faithful to their wife and who also have children who are believers. The elders must be trusted with God’s work and they must not be hot headed or disobey God. When I read this it told me that elders must be believers in God and the truth that God tells us in his teachings. They must not be afraid of teaching others about the truth of God and how to be holy and faithful followers because that is how God tells us that we get our salvation and eternal life. It is important for the elders to believe these things I think because you can not get others to believe if you do not believe and live by the word of God yourself.

QUESTION 1:  One of the questions that I had after reading this was why do the elder’s children have to be well behaved believers too?

QUESTION 2:  I also wondered why there were bad things happening in Crete that Titus had to deal with.

QUESTION 3:  I respect the elders at our church more now because I know that they are faithful followers of the Lord.
