BIO: My name is Terrence Hart. I grew up in the small town of Palm Harbor located in a once quiet area along Florida’s west coast. I moved to Orlando shortly after college where I married my dream girl. We now have two beautiful children that keep us more busy than we could imagine. FPCO has been a cornerstone for my family. We have made so many friends and ridden out tragedies and major changes through our church. We are blessed by the congregation that surrounds us and the leadership within FPCO.
KEY VERSE: Romans 14:20-21 All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.
CENTRAL TRUTH: Romans 14 discusses the weak and the strong in faith. One must not judge another based on his actions, but you must also be careful as a Christian not to act in a certain ways as to weaken your brothers in Christ.
DEVOTIONAL: Influencing the Weak in Faith
Each person has ways of living in Faith in Jesus Christ as they follow their own path. All of us Christians struggle with the daily bombardment of sin. Sin is something we all live with and is why Jesus gave his life save us from our own judgment. Through Christ’s death all things became clean and our sin is forgiven. We must be careful to not abuse the forgiveness of sins and/or pass judgment to those who sin.
Although we are walking our path individually we must keep aware of our fellow followers and how they can become weak in spirit, struggling with specific temptations of sin. We all have times when we are strong in spirit and have the ability avoid temptation in sin. As brothers in Christ we must be aware of those times our brothers may be weak in spirit and how are actions may influence them. When we are around those in times of weakness we should abstain from saying, partaking, or acting in any way that would cause that brother to stumble.
QUESTION 1: Think of those in your social circles that may have some specific weakness. How do you act around those people. Do you judge? Do you confront? Do you partake?
QUESTION 2: How do you think your actions may facilitate their stumbling’s in faith? Have you even though about how much impact your words or actions may influence these people?
QUESTION 3: Pray for those who you know are struggling with issues of sin. Pray that you act in a way around those people so as to positively influence them. Pray also that your abstinence will be influential to those you may not know are struggling.
