The Bold Truth

  Devotional for July 23rd, 2010

SCRIPTURE:  Romans 1:8-32         Read the passage

BIO:  Good morning fellow follower of Christ, my name is Barbara Clayton. I have been a member of First Pres Orlando for over 30 years! My husband Craig has been worshipping here since he was a very young child, won’t tell you how many years that has been! We have two children that married very well! They have blessed us with four wonder children! I love my family and love to spend quality time with each of them.

Over the many years I have served this wonder church by leading the youth when my own children were very young, teaching Sunday School, serving as a Deacon and presently the Lord has called me to work with the Prison Ministry! Craig and I meet weekly with our Life Group.

KEY VERSE:  Romans 1:25  They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator — who is forever praised. Amen.

CENTRAL TRUTH:  Paul wrote this letter to the Roman Christians and believers everywhere, yes to you and me! After a brief introduction Paul presents the facts of the gospel (1:3) and declares his allegiance to it (1:16,17). He continues by building an airtight case for the lostness of mankind and the necessity for God’s intervention. Then Paul presents the Good News–salvation is available to all, regardless of a persons’s identity, sin, or heritage. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ and his finished work. Through him we can stand before God justified, "not guilty".

DEVOTIONAL:  The Bold Truth

The bold truth sure hurts doesn’t it! Paul was telling the bold truth about sin! The Romans were allowing worldly things to cause them to take their focus off of the goal: fellowship with God. As I stated above I love my family and love to spend quality time with them. That is exactly what God wants with us: quality time! One thing that can separate us from our relationship with Christ is SIN. Just as the Romans we allow worldly things to separate us from God. Today more than ever we need to be careful about the input we allow to form our beliefs. With TV, music, movies, internet and the rest of the media often presenting sinful life-styles and unwholesome values, we find ourselves constantly bombarded by attitudes and beliefs that are totally opposed to the Bible. We need to be careful about what we allow to form our opinions. The bible is the only standard of truth! We all have sinned, either by rebelling against God or by ignoring his will. No matter what our background or how hard we try to live good and moral lives, we cannot earn salvation or remove our sin. Only Christ can save us!

Can you face the bold truth?

QUESTION 1:  Do you believe Christ died for YOUR sins? Only through Him can we be forgiven!

QUESTION 2:  Are you spending quality time with God?

QUESTION 3:  Is there any sin separating you from fellowshipping with Christ? Ask for forgiveness and regain that quality time!
