KEY VERSE: 2 Corinthians 5:9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.
CENTRAL TRUTH: We are challenged to live each day for Christ, this is our hope and promise for eternal life with him.
DEVOTIONAL: We have all taken some type of test, we have studied hard, memorized formulas or learned the material in order to make a good grade. We knew by doing so our grade would reflect our efforts. Life is the same in living for Christ and for the final judgment before him. All through the scriptures it talks about the Lords desires to bless His followers for their actions. “In keeping them there is a great reward (Ps.19:11), we shouldn’t obey the Lord merely to store up heavenly treasures. Our motivation should be to show gratitude and love to the one that gave his life for us.
Our earthly tents (our bodies) are only temporary; it is our eternal house in heaven that our eyes should be focused on. This piece of scripture was eye opening to me, I have read it, heard it, but never took it apart, as I have now done. I have realized that I have perhaps missed the boat. I am more than willing to receive the blessing of being a follower and taking full advantage of being saved by his grace, but do I each day take the responsibly of that privilege?
Our promise of being with him does not mean we can take it easy, nor does it mean that we will not have to give an account of how we used our gifts, talents and our resources. We are given many opportunities to serve our Lord, from helping a neighbor, serving your church body, doing mission work, performing acts of kindness, as well as the Godly choices that we make on a daily basis.
Even if we enter heaven though his grace alone, we are not guaranteed tomorrow. The steps we take today will assure us a place with him. I don’t know about you, but when I stand before him on judgment day, I want to be able to say to him how I spent my time and resources he so freely gave to me. I hope you will want the same.
QUESTION 1: Are the things you do daily pleasing Christ?
QUESTION 2: Are decisions you make and the things you do influenced by your relationship with Him?
QUESTION 3: When you meet the Lord on your judgment day, will he say, ”Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant”?
